Australian Placement : Side Story of Boyolali Socialization

We were thrilled to received invitation from Disnaker Boyolali – Middle Java, beside we have to give presentation about Job Placement Overseas towards 250 candidates, the CV which was sent a week before quite prospective especially for NZ Placement as Dairy Farmer.

When we arrived at Disnaker Boyolali, we were briefed by Mr. Suwarno, Sub-Unit of Placement and Protection, about Boyolali's potential for workers placement. I found out that Boyolali is the center for Dairy Farm and Industry for Middle Java, and we are very happy that we found new resource supply for Binamandiri Placement to NZ.

From Disnaker Boyolali, we went to Transito Auditorium Centre, where the socialization held and 250 people were already waiting for us. After 45 minutes we socialized about Working Overseas, we opened for Q and A with the participants. First and second questions were about general questions, and then the third participant, with quite angry tone, he urged us to explain about working in Australia as he said he received invitation about Working in Australia, although at glance we already informed him about how hard to work in Australia. So we explained more detail about working in Australia.
Other participants were unsatisfied with our explanation which we also didn't understand which part of the explanation that they didn't understand. Then 2 participants gave the invitation letter and suddenly I stunned reading the invitation, which stated :

So the purpose of most of the applicants, they want to be selected to work in Australia as Fruit Picker, which hard labour, without any qualification at all and obviously without any payment at all.

But when I read the rest of the invitation, it was made by what we called SPONSOR or CALO, name KARSANA and it also stamped by PT. Elkarim Jakarta. We were quite relief that it was done by other parties and also KARSANA was at the location. So Disnaker suggested that KARSANA should be responsible and explained his purpose to write and distribute such invitation and make unrest to the participants.
But, we could only more stunned with KARSANA's explanation, where he said only that his company used to have Australia job order as Fruit Packers but it was finished now, and he already recruited more than 200 hundreds people for Australia placement, so when he heard that Binamandiri has Australia recruitment license and will visit Boyolali for socialization, he directed his candidates to Disnaker event. He also asked for Binamandiri discretion to accept them to work as Fruit Picker, more over he told that if Binamandiri won't charge any fee up front, there will be more applicants who wants to work to Australia. 
Dooh..... everyone knows if you offer someone work in Australia and no charge and no qualification at all, all people will come and go to Australia, and we didn't have to go as far as Boyolali, we can always get the workers in Malang, more than enough, we can maybe 200.000 workers out from a 3,5 million Malang Raya population. 
After KARSANA gave explanation, he just left the angry mob back to us again. Well, we can only suggest them to report to the police if they felt any loss. 
The information we received, KARSANA already collect some money from the applicants, and he will collect more money if Binamandiri finished selecting the applicants. More report came from others Disnaker about his bad activities although he doesnt have any license, and yet he seems cannot be touched by law enforcement. His main idea, is to direct the applicants which he recruited to Binamandiri, and if something wrong Binamandiri will received the fault. A Very Bad Person

Beside, KARSANA, we also met a person name HERU along with some friends, still young, 27 years old who wants to go to Australia. Unfortunately his gank is a lazy type person who like to enjoy life, less work but big income. He asked whether Binamandiri can process or at least suggest him and his friend, the illegal way to work in Australia. We said to him, we cannot explain to you about any illegal procedure because we never done it and surely we cannot explain it. So he asked everything about how to obtain visa, type of visas and the procedure to get visas.
I asked him, why don't you try to look for work first in Indonesia in Trade occupation, or maybe try other country which doesn't have big qualifications as a stepping stone to work in Australia. His answer arousing pity, I am already aged, he said (although he said he is 27 years old), so I don't have time to try from the bottom, I want to work as fast as possible to Australia. I tried to explain to him, you are still 27 years old, if you work in Africa for 3 years in trade work, probably you can work in Australia at age 30, it is still young.
Yup, He seems doesn't want to do hard work, he already spoiled with easy facilities, parent's money never feel that if you want to earn something you have to make big effort to earn it. There's no easy life unless you father is multi billionaire president director.

From those experiences we had, it just reflects Indonesian as following :
  1. Indonesia people is lack of information about how to work in overseas, so it becomes weakness to be exploited by KARSANA type person. Yet the government either BNP2TKI or Depnaker are more busy with their rivalry rather than to more focus to educate our people
  2. Not like Filipino who has been indoctrinated to work overseas along with education about qualification, rights and responsibility, since elementary school, Indonesia people never receive such education at all. Thus make Indonesia people, especially peasant people, more concern with their prestige while they neglect to reflect themselves in the mirror with this questions What I have to offer to work in Australia ? All they want is POKO'e (as long as) I can work in Australia in instant time without qualification, I will bare all the consequents, because people will look at me if I can go to Australia. It just like day dreaming.
  3. With poor quality of our Indonesia Sinetron (TV Series), our young generation become Instant Generation, where as possible as can be they don't have to work hard, but instantly can have a lot of money, such HERU type person.
  4. There are many people such as KARSANA, who has no legal permit, but he can recruit, gives false information and collect money, which cause many people being rip-off, illegal placement, deportation from destination country, ….it just bad name for Indonesia, but the people like KARSANA grow more and more every years, because we lack of law enforcement, while the police more busy to annoy the legal company while illegal ones can free.
  5. DONT EVER TRUST to ANYONE who offer to work in Australia as Fruit Pickers because it is illegal for Indonesia people to work as Fruit Pickers.
  6. Working in Australia requires HIGH SKILL and QUALIFICATIONS, also GOOD ENGLISH with IELTS 4,5. Australia doesn't need no-skill workers, because they have alot in Australia.

              Learning a Different Way of Dairy Farming


              An Article taken from Waikato Times Farmer January 2009 Edition about one of Binamandiri's Pilot Project workers :

              Christmas was definitely a different experience for 23-years-old Fatkhur Rohman from Indonesia.
              He came to New Zealand in June 2008 to work in dairy farm in South Waikato.
              Fatkhur now works as an assistan herd manager looking after 650 cows which has been a very different experience – having come from his family farm in Indonesia. Where he learned farming skills from his father.
              The family farm has five cows and two calves. Those cows are fed using a cut and carry system, feeding mainly elephant grass, banana leaves and vegetable leaves. The are milked by hand and the milk is carried to the co-operative twice a day in milking cans.
              Fatkhur first heard about New Zealand agriculture through a Discovery Channel programme he watched on television in Indonesia.
              He could see that working in New Zealand agriculture would give him the opportunity to learn about a different way of farming that he could apply to the family farm on his return to Indonesia. When the chance arose to come and work on a New Zealand dairy farm, through ATR-Fegan, Fatkhur applied for the position along with a group of other Indonesians.
              After, being accepted into the ATRFegan intake, he completed a four week English language and New Zealand culture course. Two months later he arrived in New Zealand ready to begin his Kiwi farm experience.
              Since arriving on-farm, Fatkhur has found the favourite part of his job to be getting the cow in and milking.
              Learning a new farming system is a challenge but he wants to continue learning the Kiwi way. Managing the key dates of calving, matting and drying off cows is something that he has found to be intriguing. As this is not so structured in Indonesia.
              The pastured-based feeding system has also been interesting as it is so different to what he is used to on his family farm.
              Although there have been challenges along the way, Fatkhur has adapted very well to his new home and job in New Zealand.
              One of the hardest things he has had to deal with has been living so far away from his family.
              “My parents are very proud of me for coming to work in New Zealand. They want me to improve my farming skills,” he says.
              Fatkhur plans to return to Indonesia in a few years where he will be able to implement a mix of both New Zealand and Indonesian farming practices on his family farm.
